A group capable of separating from a compound.

Leaving Group Explained:

Molecular fragmentation that departs with a pair of electrons in heterocyclic bond cleavage. These groups can either be anions or neutral molecules, it is important for these leaving groups to stabilize the additional electron density that resulted from heterolysis.
